Saint John is the patron saint of friendship. Saint John the Apostle was born in Bethsaida, Syria in 6 AD. He had a brother, James, and his parents were called Zebedee and Salome.

John was a fisherman with his brother when Jesus came along and called the two brothers to be an Apostle. Jesus gave these sons of Zebedee and Salome the nicknames ‘Sons of thunder’.

Saint John was the youngest of the apostles and Jesus loved him dearly. John was the closest apostle to Jesus and stood by him, did not desert him and stood at the foot of the cross during his passion. Whilst Jesus was dying he asked John to take care of Mary through the hard time.

St. John lived a long life and led his life preaching and teaching, the Gospel and performing many miracles just like Jesus did. In the last years of his life John tried to be more like Jesus than ever.

John became the bishop of Ephesus (modern Turkey) and a church was built over his tomb. He died in the year 100AD in Ephesus Turkey and was buried in Basilica. John was canonized in the 12th century.
